Port Autonome de Dakar : Une première escale africaine pour le navire vert L’Océan Breeze de Sallaum Lines

The Port Autonome de Dakar (PAD), recently ranked the best container port in sub-Saharan Africa in 2024 by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, is strengthening its appeal with a new feat. This Monday, September 29, 2025 at 10 p.m., it welcomed the brand new ship L'Océan Breeze from Sallaum Lines, inaugurated in Antwerp, for its first African stopover, marking a decisive step in green shipping.

This dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) car and truck carrier, with a capacity of 7,500 CEU (Car Equivalent Unit), significantly reduces CO2, NOx, and particulate emissions compared to conventional vessels. Its optimized design and energy-saving features enhance its efficiency, according to Sallaum Lines.

The choice of Dakar for this first African port of call underlines “the confidence we place in this strategic partner,” said Nathalie Sallaum, Director of Relations at Sallaum. She added: “The Port of Dakar is not just a port of call, it is an essential link in our global green logistics network.” Located at the crossroads of international maritime routes, the Port of Dakar is positioned as a key West African hub for the green supply chain, offering fast and reliable logistics services thanks to its efficient terminals and its capacity to accommodate large RoRo vessels.

Committed to a sustainable development roadmap, the port aligns with Sallaum Lines' vision for resilient maritime logistics. "Its operational performance and unique geographic location allow us to guarantee our customers the reliability, sustainability, and scale they need," said Ms. Sallaum.

This success, celebrated on September 28, 2025, adds to the PAD ranking of September 22, strengthening its role as a gateway to West African markets and beyond, particularly for demanding equipment manufacturers.

The PAD Strategic Communication Unit sees this stopover as a pledge of confidence in the port's infrastructure and geostrategy, positioning Dakar as a key player in green maritime logistics.
