Préparation du 8 mai : Hommage aux tirailleurs sénégalais à Paris
In anticipation of the May 8th commemoration, a day dedicated in particular to the Unknown Soldier, the Lamp Fall Association, led by Serigne Khady Fall, is actively working to organize the 2026 edition in Paris. This day holds particular symbolic significance for the Mouride community and the family of two major spiritual figures: Serigne Fallou Fall, eldest son of Mame Cheikh Ibrahima Fall, and Sidy Ahmed Sy, eldest son of Seydi El Hadji Malick Sy, both of whom fell during the First World War (1914-1918) and whose remains have never been recovered.
Each year, the Lamp Fall Association organizes a march on the Champs-Élysées as well as a conference dedicated to the brotherhood, in order to perpetuate the memory of the Senegalese riflemen and their contribution to the liberation of France.
As part of the preparations, a delegation composed of Serigne Kosso Mbacké, eldest son of the general Khalif of the Mourides, Thierno Bassirou Tall, grandson of Cheikh Oumar Foutiyou Tall, and Serigne Cheikh Binetou Fall, Khalif of Serigne Modou Abdoulahi Fall and ambassador of peace, was received by the French ambassador to Senegal, Christine Fages, as well as by the French consul.
The discussions focused on the organizational aspects of the event, including the facilitation of visa issuance to allow participants to travel to Paris to pay tribute to the Senegalese soldiers who fought for France.
This commemoration coincides with the celebration of the Armistice of May 8, 1945. A major moment in French history, will be marked by ceremonies of laying wreaths at the Arc de Triomphe, in memory of the fighters who fell on the front.
