Programme de réponse à la sécurité alimentaire : A Kanel, 273 240 000 F CFA alloués à 2 024 ménages vulnérables

Continuing her tour in northern Senegal, as part of the assistance to vulnerable families, the Minister of Family and Solidarity was in Kanel this Thursday. Dr. Maimouna Dièye announced to the people of Damga the launch of cash transfer payments totaling 273,240,000 CFA francs intended for 2,024 vulnerable households identified through the Single National Register (RNU). Each household will receive 135,000 CFA francs to enable them to meet essential needs such as food, health, children's education and housing.

In addition to cash transfers and other significant resources deployed by the State, beneficiaries will receive food, including rice, sugar and oil, thanks to the combined interventions of the Food Security and Resilience Commission, which will provide 12 tonnes of rice, and the International Charity Organization, a partner of the Ministry of the Family, which will provide food kits to families severely affected by the floods.

Noting the importance of the interventions deployed in the department of Kanel as in the other departments, the minister declared that they are in line with the vision of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, embodied in the National Agenda for Systemic Transformation, Senegal 2050, which places social justice and the fight against poverty at the heart of its governance program.

"These cash transfers are not just allowances. They aim to help households cope with the lean season without having to resort to survival strategies that are detrimental to their future and their environment."

"Cash transfers aim to promote economic and social inclusion by supporting the purchasing power of beneficiary households and, in doing so, the development of the local economy. It is even appropriate to add to this range of measures for the social protection of vulnerable households the Yok Koom Koom which has set up, among other things, a productive subsidy of 150,000 CFA francs for the benefit of approximately 5,000 households," underlines Maimouna Dièye.

In response to the plea of the women of the department regarding financing and empowerment raised by the deputy mayor and the representative of the Kanel Departmental Council, the minister assured them of the constant commitment and support of her department.

"For the Matam region, the ministry has already injected 250 million CFA francs to support the projects of women's groups. Very soon, training and capacity-building missions, accompanied by additional funding, will be organized for the benefit of women, to strengthen the inclusiveness of the approach," she informs.

The Minister expressed her gratitude to all those involved: local authorities, technical and financial partners and donors, civil society organizations and community leaders, and technical teams, all represented or present at the ceremony. She also paid tribute to the dignity and resilience of the beneficiaries.
