Projet « Dakar Métropole » : La Direction générale de la Construction et de l’Habitat clarifie les spéculations
Senegal's General Directorate of Construction and Housing (DGCH) issued a press release this Friday, September 5, to set the record straight on the information relayed by Jeune Afrique in its September 4 edition. The article, based on an internal DGCH concept note, had raised questions about the ambitious project to transform Dakar into a modern metropolis. In response to this speculation, the DGCH is providing firm clarifications.
The press release states that the note in question "is an internal, provisional and purely exploratory working document," drawn up "as part of the strategic reflection phase." The DGCH insists: "This document has not been validated by the highest authorities of the State and cannot therefore be considered as reflecting the government's final position." Thus, the figures put forward, such as the funding estimates of between 27.5 and 30.5 billion euros, as well as details such as the alleged relocation of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, are described as "purely hypothetical and indicative," and are "study scenarios and not a final decision."
Despite these reservations, the DGCH acknowledges the government's commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, "to an ambitious and innovative approach to making Dakar a modern, inclusive, and resilient metropolis." However, it emphasizes that "the methodology of this structuring project will be imperatively participatory, transparent, and progressive."
The management also expressed its regrets: "The General Directorate of Construction and Housing regrets the premature disclosure and exploitation of an internal document, which is likely to create confusion."
In this context, the DGCH invites "the press and the public to rely exclusively on the government's official communication channels for any information relating to the 'Dakar Métropole' project." It reaffirms its "commitment to working rigorously and transparently for the success of this transformation project, which is crucial for our country," putting an end, at least temporarily, to the speculation fueled by the leak of this internal document.
