The Zac Mbao district police station received praise from UN Women during an official visit that highlighted the significant progress made by this police service in protecting the rights of women and children.

The visit, which took place on October 6, 2025, was led by a prestigious UN Women delegation including Ms. Danai Gurira, UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Arlette Mvondo, UN Women Senegal Representative and members of the UN Women Senegal office.

The UN Women representatives were welcomed by Police Commissioner Bintou Guissé, head of the Gender Division of the National Police, and Police Commissioner Alpha Oumar BA, head of the Zac Mbao police station.

During this evaluation visit, Ms. Gurira and her delegation were able to observe on the ground the remarkable progress made by the Zac Mbao police station in terms of respect for women's rights, protection of children's rights, appropriate care for victims and the application of international gender standards.

A model to duplicate.

UN Women's congratulations position the Zac Mbao police station as a benchmark for gender-sensitive care within the Senegalese security forces. This international recognition demonstrates the National Police's commitment to combating gender-based violence and protecting vulnerable groups.

This visit is part of the partnership between UN Women and the Government of Senegal to strengthen protection mechanisms for women and children, in accordance with the country's international commitments on human rights and gender equality.

The presence of the Gender Division within the National Police, headed by Commissioner Bintou Guissé, also illustrates the institutional desire to integrate a gender-based approach into all of the country's security services.
