Rosso : Un cambiste déféré pour escroquerie portant sur plus de 261 millions F CFA
On December 8, 2025, the Rosso Special Police Station brought an individual before the Saint-Louis High Court on charges of fraud and breach of trust involving an estimated261,190,000 CFA francs. The case stems from a complaint filed by a merchant based in The Gambia who had maintained business relations with the accused for several months in the foreign exchange market, particularly for the purchase of euros.
According to the complainant, the collaboration had proceeded without incident before serious irregularities arose. Indeed, for approximately six months, currency deliveries had allegedly become incomplete and late, despite the prior payment of sums in CFA francs to third parties designated by the suspect.
Faced with these repeated shortcomings and the financial loss suffered, the trader contacted the relevant authorities.
Police investigations led to the suspect's arrest in Rosso as he attempted to cross into Mauritania via an unofficial border crossing. During questioning, he confessed to the crime and admitted to the debt. He stated that he was financially ruined and had set up a Ponzi-like scheme to try to meet his financial obligations.
During his arrest, police found and seized €2,850 and 300,000 CFA francs in his possession. The suspect was then brought before the Saint-Louis prosecutor's office for further legal proceedings.
