The Rufisque Central Police Station's Urban Security Unit was alerted on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, to a murder by medical staff at Youssou Mbargane Hospital. The lifeless body of 31-year-old cart driver Mamadou Ibrahima Diouf was brought to the hospital by firefighters.

According to Seneweb sources, the tragedy originated in a cart rental transaction.

On January 18, 2026, Mbaye Diop, aged 20, rented his cart to the victim Mamadou Ibrahima Diouf from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. for 10,000 CFA francs.

At the end of the rental period, Mamadou Ibrahima Diouf only gave him 2,500 francs. Mbaye Diop refused to take this sum and a heated argument broke out between the two men.

The two cart drivers first got into a fight near the Rada clinic before being separated. They met again in the Dangou neighborhood where, according to the suspect, he surprised the victim with a brick. The suspect allegedly struck the victim on the temple.

According to his own account, Mbaye Diop, overcome with fear, tried to revive the victim by pouring water on him, before fleeing at the sight of the firefighters.

Relatives of the victim were informed by passersby that a fight had just broken out between Mamadou Ibrahima Diouf and another young man in a corner of Dangou. Arriving on the scene a few minutes later, they found that firefighters had already evacuated the injured man to Youssou Mbargane Hospital.

At the hospital, the doctor informed them that the victim had succumbed to his injuries during the evacuation.

The police transported the victim to the hospital for examination. There, they discovered injuries to the victim's right temple, right ear, and a torn left lip.

Arrest of the suspected murderer

Cross-referencing information has allowed the alleged murderer to be identified as Mbaye Diop, a cart driver residing in Darou Rahmane.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the suspect. He was apprehended at his home in Darou Rahmane after information regarding his movements was corroborated. He was caught sleeping in his bedroom on the second floor of his house.

Mbaye Diop has been taken into custody for murder. Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office, has been informed of the tragedy.
