Rufisque : Une veillée nocturne organisée pour exiger la libération des supporters détenus au Maroc
Emotions ran high this Tuesday, February 10th, in Dangou Nord, where residents and families of Senegalese supporters imprisoned in Morocco gathered under the banner "The Red Lion" and the slogan "Free our supporters." The vigil, combining prayer and meditation, aimed to provide moral support to the detainees and to appeal to the authorities.
For Blaise Niang, the spokesperson, this gathering went beyond a simple demonstration. "Meditating and praying also means keeping our brothers in our hearts and hoping for their swift return," he declared, praising the strong turnout from the people of Rufisque as a powerful signal to the Senegalese and Moroccan authorities. Blaise also expressed their pessimism regarding the outcome of this affair.
Despite the somber atmosphere, criticism erupted against the judicial process in Morocco. Blaise Niang denounced the language barrier, asserting that some detainees, who did not speak French, were forced to express themselves in that language. He also pointed to limited access to lawyers, including Patrick Kabou, which he argued compromised a fair defense for the eighteen individuals involved.
Faced with what he considers the silence of the Senegalese state, Blaise Niang announced the dispatch of two members of the ASC Lebougui to Morocco for direct support. "If last night was a success, it's thanks to the Senegalese people. We hope their messages will finally be heard," he emphasized. The movement is planning a large-scale demonstration in front of the Moroccan embassy in Dakar if no progress is made by Thursday.
