A gruesome discovery was made yesterday in the town of Saensoutou, where the lifeless body of a man was found in a ditch, causing shock among the people of this gold-mining area.

According to initial reports gathered on site, the victim's name is Issouf Ouedraogo, aged 33. Single and without children, he worked as a gold panner and resided in Saensoutou, a locality known for its artisanal gold mining activities.

The alarm was raised by a Burkinabe national passing through the area. After spotting the body lying in the ditch, he immediately informed a security guard from the Sintrade company. Alerted, the guard then contacted the gendarmerie officers stationed at Saensoutou.

An advanced state of decomposition

The police quickly arrived at the scene to carry out the initial standard procedures. There, they discovered the body in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting that the death occurred several days prior.

After the usual checks and given the condition of the body, the burial was reportedly carried out on site at around 5 p.m., according to a source in the area.

The exact circumstances of Issouf Ouedraogo's death remain unknown. An investigation has been opened by the gendarmerie to shed light on this tragedy, which occurred in this busy gold mining area.

This discovery has once again raised concerns about safety conditions at gold mining sites in the region, where workers from various countries in the sub-region flock daily in search of the precious metal.
