Saint-Louis : Découverte d'un bébé abandonné sous un arbre
There is great emotion in the Ngallèle district of Saint-Louis. On Sunday, May 3, 2026, a baby girl was found alone, alive, under a tree, triggering the opening of a police investigation.
It was a most unusual discovery that shook the neighborhood late this morning. MF Boye, a 64-year-old retired teacher, was returning from shopping when she spotted an unusual figure in front of her house. Lying in the shade of a tree was a baby girl, about a year old.
Despite the woman's alert, the child could not be identified by any neighbors, and no one appears to have seen the individual who left the baby there. The Saint-Louis police station's on-call officers were dispatched to the scene and carried out the initial standard procedures.
Firefighters, alerted immediately, provided first aid before evacuating the baby to the Saint-Louis regional hospital for a complete medical examination, according to Seneweb sources.
In accordance with established procedures, the local child welfare center has been notified. Investigators are now working to identify and locate the child's mother, or anyone else involved in this abandonment, in order to fully understand the circumstances of this tragic situation.
