Salémata : Un berger malien intercepté par la gendarmerie avec 12 moutons volés en Guinée
As part of a security operation carried out in its area of responsibility, particularly in the commune of Oubadji, a border area with Guinea, the territorial gendarmerie brigade of Salémata arrested an individual suspected of cattle theft, according to Seneweb sources close to the prosecutor's office.
The gendarmes caught AL, a 22-year-old Malian national, looking for a tricycle to transport a flock of 12 sheep from Guinea. When questioned about the origin of the livestock, the suspect was unable to provide a plausible explanation. He was therefore detained for questioning.
The border police officers were notified of the case. They indicated that at the same time, Guinean nationals had come to their premises to report the loss of a flock of 16 sheep entrusted to their shepherd, identified as AL, a Malian national.
According to statements gathered, the suspect allegedly took advantage of a family ceremony to divert the herd and cross the border towards Senegal, before being intercepted by the gendarmes in Oubadji.
A search operation was immediately launched. Defense and security forces managed to locate 12 sheep hidden behind the village, awaiting transport. However, four animals remain missing at this time.
Following his detention at the Salémata police station, AL was brought before the Kédougou prosecutor's office on charges of breach of trust and livestock theft against his employer. The 12 recovered sheep were returned to their owner.
