Saraya : 3 nouveaux corps extraits des décombres de l’éboulement sur un site d’orpaillage clandestin à Gamba-Gamba
The death toll from the landslide that occurred on Sunday, February 8th at an illegal gold mining site has risen sharply in the department of Saraya. The accident, which took place west of the village of Gamba-Gamba, within the perimeter of the Afrigold mining company, has already claimed five lives.
After the discovery of the first two bodies on Sunday, three more were extracted from the rubble this Monday morning, bringing to five the total number of deaths recorded following this landslide.
At the scene of the tragedy, the search continues under particularly difficult conditions. The gold miners themselves are leading the operations, digging with their bare hands or using rudimentary tools, in the hope of finding possible survivors or other bodies.
This new accident once again illustrates the ongoing dangers associated with illegal gold mining in this area, despite the numerous tragedies already recorded in recent months within the Afrigold perimeter.
