Saraya/Kolia : un comité de veille citoyenne pour renforcer la sécurité du village
Located near the Falémé River, the village of Kolia has had a monitoring, alert, and vigilance committee since 2013 to strengthen the security of the population. Faced with the risk of intrusions and suspicious presences, the inhabitants have chosen to organize themselves in synergy with the security forces.
Comprised of several young volunteers, the Kolia Vigilance Committee monitors the peace and quiet of local residents day and night. Their mission is clear: to identify and report any abnormal behavior or suspicious presence that could threaten the village's tranquility. These actions are carried out in close collaboration with the border police, who are regularly present in the area.
Since its creation over ten years ago, the committee has taken numerous actions to protect and ensure the village's security. Its members, motivated by a deep sense of patriotism, are constantly ready to alert the authorities in the event of crime or threats. Their slogan illustrates this commitment well:
“We are patriots, our security begins with us.”
The people of Kolia say they are reassured by this local security system, reinforced by the daily work of the border police. The latter is unanimously praised for its constant efforts in protecting people and property.
With this model of citizen monitoring, Kolia illustrates how community mobilization, combined with support from law enforcement, can become an effective bulwark against insecurity in border areas.
