Scandale à la Gare routière de Kolda : Le chef accusé de détournement de plus de 90 Millions F CFA
A power struggle has reignited in Kolda between transport operators and the head of the bus station, Vieux Bouly Diédhiou. Transporters and drivers are demanding accountability for the management of funds estimated at over 90 million CFA francs, derived from user fees.
Speaking to the press on Saturday, November 22, the plaintiffs demanded clarification regarding this sum. According to their spokesperson, Lamine Kane Baldé, who is also the secretary general of the transport operators' association, the money was intended for member assistance, facility renovations, and improvements to the vehicle fleet.
Lamine Kane Baldé was indignant: "Where have our contributions gone?", demanding a clear and transparent accounting of the use of funds.
In addition to the financial opacity, the group is demanding the immediate removal of Vieux Bouly Diédhiou from his position as head of the organization. Lamine Kane Baldé asserts that Mr. Diédhiou's mandate ended "years ago" and that he is illegally occupying and managing the funds in a climate of secrecy.
A transporter, Magnan Diouf, called for the intervention of the Prefect to regularize this situation.
When questioned about this matter, Vieux Bouly Diédhiou rejected the accusations, calling them "dishonest" on the part of his detractors. He accused them of acting against the rules and regulations governing the operation of the bus station.
One point of contention is a consensus allegedly reached after his first term, with the assistance of the prefecture, the Civil Forum, and the representative from Kolda, which supposedly allowed him to continue in power. Lamine Kane Baldé, however, denies the existence of this agreement.
This conflict, which has been simmering for more than 18 months, has resurfaced and is fueling debates in the capital of Fouladou.
