Scandale médical à Abass Ndao : des faux médecins arrêtés, 400 000 FCFA pour un goitre non opéré, circoncisions à risques..
The Keur Massar Gendarmerie Company's Research Brigade has struck hard in the fight against the illegal practice of medicine. Three individuals suspected of posing as doctors and operating for years in various health facilities were arrested and taken into custody on September 22, 2025.
A network of fake practitioners dismantled
The suspects are: A. Diop, 49, a self-proclaimed nursing assistant, residing in Keur Massar; Y. Ndiaye, 48, presenting himself as a surgical assistant and residing in Thiaroye; and B. Coly, 47, claiming to work as a surgical assistant, residing in Pikine. They are being prosecuted for usurpation of the function and identity of a doctor, illegal practice of medicine and endangering the lives of others, according to Seneweb sources. According to medical sources, these suspects also practiced in certain clinics in Dakar, without legal approval or appropriate medical training.
This usurpation allowed them to perform medical procedures, including circumcisions, exposing patients to serious health risks. The investigation reveals that several patients circumcised by these fake practitioners suffered serious medical complications. While they were only supposed to assist qualified personnel in the operating room, they allegedly performed surgical procedures themselves, according to the investigations conducted by the investigators.
An edifying case
The case worsened with the case of A. Diop, accused of having received 400,000 FCFA from a patient suffering from goiter, who was supposed to have been operated on since December 2024. The delay in this intervention now exposes the patient to serious complications, according to the alert from a professor, head of the operating room department.
The gendarmerie raid on Abass Ndao hospital
On September 22, 2025, a raid by the gendarmes on the Abass Ndao hospital confirmed the veracity of the facts. A manager of the operating room claimed that this was an "old practice" that he had discovered upon arriving at the establishment, specifying that he had always refused to collaborate with these individuals, unlike other doctors. Even more disturbing, the hospital managers reportedly told investigators that they were unaware of the existence of these practices in the establishment.
A case that splashes
This raid by the Dakar Gendarmerie Legion follows reports to the judicial authorities regarding the actions of these fake doctors in the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office. Investigations have established that the suspects have significantly exceeded their prerogatives as medical assistants at the Abass Ndao Hospital. Thus, the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor reportedly ordered the Keur Massar research brigade to open an investigation and arrest the suspects.
