Scat Urbam : cinq ressortissants ghanéens en situation irrégulière arrêtés pour mendicité en réunion
In the early morning of Friday, March 27, 2026, a targeted operation by the Grand-Yoff police station's research brigade led to the arrest of five Ghanaian migrants living in the most extreme poverty.
Around 6 a.m., acting on a tip about homeless foreign nationals in an alley in the Scat Urbam neighborhood, officers under Commissioner Mountakha Khouma arrested five Ghanaian nationals. They are being prosecuted for illegal residency, vagrancy, and begging as a group, according to Seneweb sources.
The accused are identified as follows: I. MUSTAPHA, 26 years old; I. IDRISSA, 26 years old; I. MUSA, 22 years old; A. BULAMA, 18 years old; and B. MALA, 16 years old, all without declared profession.
When questioned about their migration journey, they revealed that they left Ghana about a month ago, passing successively through Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast and Mali, before entering Senegal through the Kidira border post, in search of a better life.
Once in Dakar, their situation quickly deteriorated into destitution. Homeless, they slept in the alley next to the Soumsoum hotel and spent their days begging in the street to survive.
Regarding their identity documents, they stated that they had lost them along the way, without providing further details.
The five men were taken into custody for the aforementioned offenses and are the subject of an ongoing investigation. Prosecutor Ibrahima Ndoye, head of the prosecutor's office at the Dakar High Court, has been informed of the facts.
