Sébikotane : un chauffeur arrêté par la gendarmerie après avoir volé 2 388 chaises
The Sébikotane Territorial Brigade, under the Rufisque Gendarmerie Company, has put an end to the activities of a notorious swindler who had managed to steal 2,388 chairs from 48 people, according to Seneweb sources. The perpetrator is a driver known as CT Ndiaye, who operated in the Rufisque department, particularly in Niague and Sébikotane.
His modus operandi consisted of renting chairs using another person's identity card before disappearing into thin air.
It was in these circumstances that CT Ndiaye went to Niagues on Friday, January 16. With an identity card in the name of MN, the accused managed to rent 45 chairs for 100 CFA francs each from Mrs. F. Sarr.
The con artist then transported the equipment in a vehicle. But the scene and the Toyota's license plate were captured by surveillance cameras installed at Ms. Sarr's home.
At the end of the contract period, she was shocked to find that her client, Ndiaye, was nowhere to be found. After filing a report with the local police station in Niague, she noted the license plate number of the vehicle that had transported her chairs, after reviewing the footage from the security cameras.
A week later, PA Diagne, the victim's son, saw the same Toyota vehicle in the Escale neighborhood of Sébikotane. The suspect was about to load some chairs. He was apprehended on the spot by Diagne, who then alerted the residents of the neighborhood.
The gendarmes' on-site visit led to the suspect being taken to the Sébikotane territorial brigade. Following the announcement of the swindler's arrest, a total of 48 complainants came forward to the investigators, according to Seneweb sources.
Thus, his custody measure was extended after consultation with Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office.
In total, the suspect stole 2,388 chairs. During questioning, he readily admitted to the crimes. However, he attempted to convince investigators that he had been mystically afflicted and was unaware of his motive for stealing chairs. Following the investigation, CT Ndiaye was brought before the prosecutor's office yesterday, Tuesday.
