Sécurisation à Thiès : La police et la gendarmerie unissent leurs forces et interpellent 70 suspects
During the night of December 3-4, 2025, police and gendarmerie forces conducted a major security operation in Thiès. The results were impressive: 70 people arrested, 92 vehicles impounded, and 158 items seized.
The operation began at 9 p.m. and ended at 6 a.m. It covered the entire department of Thiès. A briefing to coordinate actions was held before the operation, and a debriefing concluded the mission.
The police mobilized 185 officers, including 105 from the central police station in Thiès and 73 from the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI). Seven officers from the canine unit of the Multipurpose Intervention Brigade (BIP) were also present with two dogs. Fifteen police vehicles participated in the operation, including four boxers. The gendarmerie deployed 223 personnel, including 15 pickup trucks and six double-cab vehicles.
Security forces visited several areas known for crime. They set up checkpoints at various locations throughout the city.
Areas visited include Diassap, EDK, Tableau Commune, Angle Mor Diakher, the Stade Lat Dior roundabout, the Parcelles-Assainies roundabout, ENSA, the Tassette road, the Mont Roland intersection, the Diakhao roundabout, the central market, the Serigne Fallou corner, the Bayakh roundabout and the km 50 intersection.
Four armed patrols reinforced the operation. Police officers from the investigation unit checked bars, areas frequented by criminals, and high-risk zones.
A total of 70 individuals were apprehended, according to Seneweb sources. Among them, 65 were found to be in violation of the law, three others were arrested for illegal immigration, one individual was arrested for possession of marijuana, and one person was arrested for possession of a gas pump and cellulose products.
Law enforcement officers impounded 42 cars and 50 motorcycles for various traffic violations or lack of documentation.
In total, 158 various items were seized during the operation. The offenders paid 484,000 CFA francs in fixed fines on the spot. Security forces also seized 500 grams of cannabis.
This large-scale operation demonstrates the authorities' commitment to combating insecurity in Thiès. It also serves to deter criminals and reassure the public. The police and gendarmerie worked together effectively to secure the region and apprehend undocumented individuals.
