The Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS) of Sédhiou, under the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), seized a large shipment of drugs on the night of Saturday, February 21, 2026. Around 4 a.m., the detectives intercepted a courier transporting 56 kg of Indian hemp by bicycle to Guinea-Bissau.
The operation was launched following the exploitation of operational intelligence reporting a drug convoy transported by two individuals on bicycles. Thanks to increased surveillance in the Koussi area, police officers managed to intercept one of the suspects. His accomplice fled, abandoning his bicycle at the scene, which was loaded with three bags containing 32 blocks of marijuana.
The arrested courier was transporting three sisal bags and a backpack filled with drugs, weighing a total of 24 kg. The overall seizure amounted to 56 kg of Indian hemp of the so-called "green" variety.
During his interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. He revealed that the goods originated in the area and admitted his role as a simple courier acting on behalf of his boss. For this clandestine transport across the border, he was to receive 60,000 FCFA.
The suspect has been taken into custody. The investigation continues to identify and apprehend his accomplice who is on the run, as well as the mastermind behind this cross-border trafficking operation.
