Limite Frontière Sénégal–Mauritanie : le gouverneur de Saint-Louis rassure les populations
Faced with the circulation of videos and voice messages on social networks reporting an alleged territorial encroachment, the governor of the Saint-Louis region, Al Hassan Sall, broke his silence to provide official clarifications.
In a public statement, the head of the regional executive announced that the content denounces a planned construction of a checkpoint by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania near the Goxu Mbathie neighborhood. The authors of the messages claim that the infrastructure would be built on Senegalese territory.
Having been informed of the matter, the governor indicated that he had sought clarification from the National Border Management Commission.
"Following a joint visit to the site in question, the Commission formally established that the project is being carried out in Mauritanian territory, in accordance with the official border demarcation between the two countries," the governor stated.
To support its conclusions, the Commission sent the governor an official map showing the border line and clearly locating the construction site outside of Senegalese territory.
This document was presented to representatives of the people of Goxu Mbathie during an audience granted by the governor, who invited them to relay this information to the local residents.
In the statement, Governor Al Hassan Sall called on the population to remain calm and exercise restraint, urging them to refrain from any hostile actions or interference in a project under the jurisdiction of a neighboring state. He also assured them that the administrative authorities remain available to listen to and address, within the appropriate framework, any legitimate concerns of citizens.
