Hydrological monitoring at stations installed on the Senegal River in Bakel, Matam, and Podor reveals a worrying trend in rising water levels. In these areas, where water levels have exceeded the alert threshold, and while water releases are being carried out at the Manantali dam, local residents are becoming increasingly anxious about possible river overflows.

The rising waters of the Senegal River continue to increase vigilance in the valley, where rising trends were noted today in Bakel, Matam and Podor. The water resources brigade of Saint-Louis and Matam, in its daily bulletin, reports that "the level of the Bafing at Manantali (upstream of the dam) is 208.37 m, this September 22, 2025 at 8 a.m. On the same date last year, the level was at 205.38 m. The flow released by Manantali is 2016 m3/s compared to 157 m3/s on the same date last year."

The document made available indicates a trend towards a rise in the water level of 16 cm at Bakel where, after reaching the level of 10 m, "the water level, which was at the level of 10.30 m on September 21, 2025 at 8 a.m., is this morning at 10.46 m compared to 10.28 m in 2024."

In the same dynamic, at the Matam hydrological station, the alert level of 8 m was exceeded by 26 cm, after reaching the threshold of 8.08 m on September 21, an increase of 18 cm in two days.

In Podor, the water level has risen from 5.15 m on 21 September 2025 at 8 a.m. to 5.17 m today, compared to 5.01 m last year. At the Podor station, whose critical threshold is 5 m, a rising trend of 2 cm is observed.

Faced with these developments, the administrative and territorial authorities, in coordination with the State's technical services, have initiated anticipatory measures relating to awareness, prevention, security and in particular intervention.
