Omar, known as Pape Ndao, father of footballer Alassane Ndao, former winger for Konyaspor, gave a moving interview to L'Observateur. His son, currently under house arrest in Turkey, is charged in a wide-ranging investigation into illegal betting and match-fixing, and faces up to 13 years in prison.
His father believes these accusations are unfounded and a form of harassment. He suspects an "invisible hand" behind the affair, linked to his son's refusal to extend his contract with his Turkish club. "He's accused of betting to win 30,000 FCFA when he earns hundreds of millions. It makes no sense," he insists, denouncing a "real trap" set for the player upon his return to Turkey.
The situation has plunged the entire family into despair. Between frozen accounts and the inability to provide for his loved ones, Alassane finds himself unable to help his family, despite having always been "very sociable and generous." His father confesses to spending "sleepless nights" and gives a chilling account of his father's state of mind: "It's almost 9 p.m. and I can't break my fast. I can't eat anything. Just thinking that he risks up to 13 years in prison fills me with despair."
The source speaking to the newspaper, part of the Future Media Group, made an urgent appeal to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Although he received a response from the Presidency at the end of January assuring him that the matter would be followed up, no concrete results have yet been achieved. The father also lamented the silence of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF): "He has represented the national team since he was a youth player; he doesn't deserve to be abandoned."
In this ordeal, the family can nevertheless count on the solidarity of some Lions, such as Mbaye Diagne, Cheikhou Kouyaté and Pape Cherif Ndiaye, the latter even going to the family home after Senegal's victory in Morocco to reassure the player's mother.
