The National Police, through the Bel-Air District Police Station, the Urban Security of the Central Police Station of Dakar and the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), dismantled a formidable gang of burglars with the arrest of five bandits, according to Seneweb sources.

Since November 2024, there has been a surge in burglaries in the Bel-Air area. The perpetrators, armed with machetes, firearms, and nail pullers, are targeting businesses and service providers.

In response to this situation, the Urban Security Unit of the Dakar Central Police Station was activated. The Bel-Air Police Commissioner provided police reports and items abandoned at the burglary scenes by the perpetrators: wire cutters, a machete, a nail puller, a firearm, and six rounds of ammunition. An investigative team comprised of members of the Urban Security Unit (SU) and the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) took charge of the case.

The investigation led to the arrest of ASD, known as Rasta, a 32-year-old dockworker residing in Boune. When questioned, he initially denied the charges. Despite his denials, he was implicated by strong and consistent evidence. When asked to name his accomplices, he categorically refused.

The ongoing investigation led to the identification and arrest of other members of the gang who were present at the scene on the day and at the time of the events. These include:

-MF, 43 years old, driver, residing in Grand Dakar,

-AB, 41 years old, dockworker, residing in Thiaroye,

-MAB, 44 years old, mechanic, residing in Dalifort,

-AOB, 28 years old, motorcycle driver, residing in Thiaroye Azur.

When questioned, all four admitted to being members of this gang and to having participated in the burglaries, before denouncing the names of the other members of the network.

The suspects were taken into custody for conspiracy, armed robbery committed at night, breaking and entering, scaling and use of firearms and vehicles.

The investigation continues with a view to apprehending the other members of the gang named by the suspects.

A press conference will be held this Friday by the police to discuss this case in detail.
