Sindia : la grève des étudiants vire au drame, un collégien tué
The high school in Sindia, in the department of Mbour, is plunged into grief after the tragic death of a 12-year-old student, S. Camara, in 6th grade. The victim was fatally struck in the head by a stone thrown in the schoolyard during disturbances caused by a group of striking students.
According to L'Observateur, which reported the story, students from Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), returning to their hometown after the closure of the Dakar campus, allegedly attempted to disrupt classes at the high school to protest the suspension of instruction. They reportedly forced students from their classrooms, causing panic and widespread confusion in the schoolyard.
It was in this chaos that young S. Camara was struck in the head by a stone. Seriously injured, he was evacuated to the Popenguine health district, where he was admitted to intensive care. He died the following morning.
The news deeply shocked the school community and the residents of Sindia. The body was released to the family and buried the same day in the town's Muslim cemetery. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy and identify the person who threw the stone, according to the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
