Charged with conspiracy and intentional assault and battery (causing three days of temporary incapacity for work [TIW] for the victim), F. Pène and Mb. Guèye were arrested within the grounds of the Dakar courthouse after beating up a complainant.
The events took place on November 27, Libération recounts. The newspaper explains that the victim, S. Sawané, had just appeared in court in a visa fraud case brought against him by D. Pène, who is currently in pretrial detention. Upon leaving the courtroom, Sawané was surrounded by Pène's associates who violently attacked him.
The swift intervention of the gendarmes brought the attack to an end. Sawané, who was injured, was treated and evacuated by firefighters. The two alleged assailants, Pène and Guèye, were arrested on the spot and handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC).
However, a third person involved, Mr. Pène - Daouda Pène's uncle - managed to escape, the daily newspaper concludes.
