Six tonnes de cocaïne saisies : l’Afrique de l’Ouest face à l’offensive des cartels
Nearly six tons of cocaine were seized off the coast of West Africa, highlighting the growing importance of this area in global drug trafficking routes. Balkan criminal networks, in alliance with the Brazilian PCC cartel, are exploiting the region as a transit point to Europe, taking advantage of its geographical proximity and expanding port infrastructure.
The report by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) highlights the persistent weakness of controls and surveillance systems, which facilitates the massive smuggling of narcotics. These flows reflect the increased professionalization of networks, which adapt their routes and methods to circumvent police and customs presence.
This situation highlights the vulnerability of West African states to sophisticated transnational trafficking and reveals the need to strengthen regional and international cooperation. Securing ports and strengthening the capacities of enforcement agencies are now essential to limiting the growth of this illicit trade and protecting the region's economic and social stability.
