Sococim: Les travailleurs dénoncent des menaces de licenciement et des conditions de travail "inhumaines"
Tensions are rising within the Sococim company in Rufisque. The Autonomous Union of Cement Professionals is warning of threats of dismissals and sanctions against its members. It accuses senior management of orchestrating retaliation for their union involvement.
On the airwaves of Rfm, the unionists also denounced the precarious working conditions of the service providers, some of whom have been in their positions for more than 10 years with salaries deemed derisory.
These workers are also protesting against recent statements by the general manager, who mentioned plans to recruit only 150 service providers out of the 500 in service, despite years of hard work.
"We are being treated like modern-day slaves. After setting up a union to defend our rights, our salaries were arbitrarily cut," laments Thié Mokho Diallo, the staff representative who is also responsible for communications for the independent union of cement professionals, on RFM today.
Faced with what they describe as contemptuous management, Sococim workers have announced a strike and plan to take the matter to the labor court. They are also calling on the authorities to intervene to defuse the crisis.
