Centrale technique de la Sonatel de Malika : 2 vigiles et 2 chauffeurs arrêtés pour vol de câbles

The Keur Massar Research Brigade (BR) dismantled, on September 14, a network involved in the theft of telecommunications cables belonging to Sonatel, according to Seneweb sources close to the prosecutor's office. Four individuals were arrested, including two security guards working at the Malika technical center.

The drivers' questioning

The first to be arrested were drivers A. Diop, 23, and M. Diop, 25, both living in Malika. They were caught during a routine patrol near the Keur Massar forest, driving a Kangoo vehicle with registration number TH 6674 E.

Upon seeing the police, the driver tried to flee, but the vehicle was quickly intercepted.

The search uncovered nearly 200 kilograms of carefully concealed telecom cables. Pressed to explain, the driver, Mr. Diop, admitted to having transported these cables twice, which he claims to have loaded at the Sonatel technical center in Malika, on the instructions of an individual presenting himself as a casual employer.

The arrest of the incriminated security guards

The gendarmes immediately went to the scene, where they found security guard A. Dia, working at the Sonatel technical center in Malika. Identified by the drivers as being involved in the operation, he stated that his colleague D. Mangara, 35, had organized the loading of the cables and had given him the sum of 5,000 CFA francs from the sale of the loot.

Informed of the presence of law enforcement, Mangara abandoned his motorcycle and personal belongings at the scene before fleeing. However, investigators' searches later led to his being found and arrested.

An organized network unmasked

Analysis of the case revealed that the two security guards systematically diverted Sonatel cables with the complicity of the two drivers arrested, according to Seneweb sources close to the prosecution. This well-oiled organization allowed for the discreet transport of stolen cables to points of sale.

Following the investigation, the four suspects were presented to the prosecutor on Tuesday, while the vehicle used was immobilized by the BR. Sonatel management was informed of the situation.

Continuation of investigations

Investigations are continuing to identify other possible accomplices, including the owner of the Fass Mbao store where the cables were supposedly stored. This case is part of the reinforced operations carried out by the Dakar Gendarmerie Legion under the command of Colonel Malick Faye, which is intensifying night patrols in crime-prone areas to strengthen the population's sense of security.
