Soussoung : De nouvelles arrestations ravivent la tension dans le village, le collectif interpelle Diomaye

The village of Soussoung, in the commune of Ndiaganiao, experienced intense unrest on Thursday, August 21, following a series of arrests carried out by the gendarmerie.

According to the Collective for the Defense of Soussoung Lands, these operations targeted several young people from the village in the middle of the rainy season, when the population is mobilized in the fields.

"A large proportion of young people have had to flee for fear of being arrested," the group denounced in its press release. It describes a climate of fear, chaos, and turmoil, and further accuses supporters of the quarry project of exploiting the situation to settle personal disputes by arresting peaceful citizens.

In its press release, the group describes these methods as "repressive and "from another age." It directly challenges state authorities, particularly President Diomaye Faye, recalling that he had spoken publicly about the Ndengler case, but remains silent on the Soussoung case.

Residents are demanding an immediate end to arbitrary arrests, the unconditional release of those arrested, and the opening of an independent investigation into what they describe as an opaque case.

While awaiting a reaction from the authorities, the collective remains mobilized and determined to defend its land, its dignity and its future against all forms of injustice and dispossession.
