Soussoung : Des organisations et associations paysannes exigent la libération des paysans arrêtés et envisagent de se joindre au combat du collectif

The Collective for the Preservation and Development of Peasant Lands (CPVTP) is sounding the alarm after the tensions that erupted on August 1 and 2, 2025, in the town of Soussoung, in the commune of Ndiaganiao (Mbour department). These clashes, linked to a land dispute, resulted in the arrest of several farmers during the rainy season, exacerbating an already tense social climate.

True to its slogan "Manko Aar Sunu Suuf" (Together, let's protect our lands), the CPVTP recalls that it has initiated mediation actions and proposed inclusive consultation frameworks to prevent any escalation. But despite these efforts, the situation has degenerated and continues to become more complicated with the continuation of arrests.

In a press release, the group warns of the risk of social unrest in the President's home town and calls on the authorities to prioritize dialogue.

"While we were hoping for a move to ease this malaise, we were informed that arrests are still continuing, adding to this crisis a dose of political and social sensitivity, which the commune of the President of the Republic, Ndiaganiao, does not need," warns the general secretary of the collective, Philippe Malick Dione.

It therefore makes four priority recommendations: the immediate release of those arrested; the establishment of a framework for inclusive dialogue; the continuation of agricultural activities until the end of the rainy season; and the payment of compensation due to affected farmers.

The CPVTP believes that only the implementation of these measures can restore calm and prevent other peasant organizations, ready to join the mobilization, from widening the conflict.

"We attach great importance to dialogue, at a time when many families are on the verge of implosion," emphasizes the collective's general secretary, Philippe Malick Dione.

The CPVTP, which brings together structures fighting against land sales, deforestation and land conflicts in the department of Mbour, is a framework for reflection with a view to proposing solutions to emerge from the crises linked to these phenomena which have ended up undermining the rural world and peri-urban areas in Senegal.
