Accords État-Diakaye : Découvrez comment Bignona célèbre trois ans de stabilité retrouvée
Three years after the signing of the peace accords between the State of Senegal and the Diakaye faction of the MFDC led by Fatoma Coly, civil society actors, gathered within the Sub-Regional Coordination of Civil Society Organizations for Peace in Casamance (COSPAC), launched commemorative activities with a hike in Bignona. This initiative brought together young people, elders, administrative authorities, local elected officials, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and partners, sending a strong signal: peace is now a reality under construction, driven by the will of the people.
The prefect of the Bignona department, Mamadou Khoma, commended the courage of those who agreed to lay down their arms and respond to the demands of the local population. He reiterated that peace is a shared objective and invited those who have not yet taken this step to join the process. His appeal is part of a national and regional movement: "Senegal needs peace, Casamance needs peace, Africa needs peace."
Peace and resource preservation
Beyond reconciliation, the initiative highlighted the need to preserve Casamance's natural resources. The forests, land, and waterways constitute a precious heritage to be passed on to future generations. The prefect emphasized the importance of protecting this legacy, an essential condition for establishing lasting peace and ensuring balanced development.
The Bignona hike, preceding the third year of the Mongole Accords, embodies a dual commitment: consolidating peace and preserving resources. By combining reconciliation and ecological responsibility, the people affirm their desire to build a peaceful, green, and prosperous Casamance, serving the development of Senegal.
