Supporters sénégalais détenus au Maroc : Les démarches de la CNDH
The National Human Rights Commission of Senegal (CNDH) has reacted to the situation of the 18 Senegalese supporters detained in Morocco following the incidents that occurred during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Rabat.
In a statement released on Thursday, the institution indicated that it had taken steps with its Moroccan counterpart to ensure follow-up on the case and the protection of the rights of the Senegalese nationals concerned.
According to the CNDH (National Human Rights Commission), its president, Professor Amsatou Sow Sidibé, sent an official letter on February 3, 2026, to Amina Bouayach, president of the National Human Rights Council of Morocco. The purpose of this correspondence was to draw attention to the situation of the Senegalese supporters and to request the support of the Moroccan institution for diligently following up on the case.
This initiative is part of the cooperation between national human rights institutions. It was reinforced by a bilateral meeting between the two officials, held on February 4, 2026 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on the sidelines of the General Assembly and the 15th Biennial Conference of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI).
During this meeting, the two presidents discussed the situation of detained Senegalese supporters, reaffirming their commitment to respecting the rights of persons deprived of their liberty and to treatment in accordance with international human rights standards.
In its statement, the CNDH of Senegal welcomes the interest shown in this case by the National Human Rights Council of Morocco, which is monitoring it within its competence.
The Senegalese institution also affirms that it will continue its efforts, in collaboration with the relevant state authorities and institutions, to guarantee respect for the fundamental rights of Senegalese nationals involved in this case.
