Tabaski :Kaolack aura besoin de 50 000 têtes de moutons

The Kaolack region will need 50,000 sheep for the upcoming Tabaski festival. This was the conclusion reached by the Regional Development Committee (CRD), chaired by the deputy governor of the region, in charge of development, Mamadou Abib Camara. The meeting brought together various stakeholders from the region.

According to Dr. Khady Ndiaye, regional director of livestock and animal production, the sheep requirement for 2025 was set at 50,000 head. They managed to acquire up to 90,916 head. Over 18,000 head were imported, and more than 13,000 were exported. Following Tabaski (Eid al-Adha), only 128 head remained.

For the Tabaski 2026 forecast, the target for the Kaolack region is 50,000 sheep. As for sales points, Kaolack will have 7, then 6 in the Nioro department and 5 in Guinguinéo.

Addressing the issue of cattle theft, he emphasized that the governor has implemented a certificate of origin system that village chiefs can issue to any buyer. The buyer can then obtain a health certificate at the nearest veterinary checkpoint, which they will present to law enforcement to prove that the animal was not stolen.

Furthermore, in the municipality of Kaolack, an identification of sales points not authorized by the town hall and the prefecture will be made.

Speaking about the relocation of the "Daral de Dialegne," he acknowledges that it poses a safety and public health problem because it is surrounded by houses, leading to coexistence between people and animals. This is not without risks.

"Before any relocation, you must first find a site and the necessary resources to achieve it," argues Mamadou Abib Camara.
