MP Tafsir Thioye paid a vibrant tribute to Senegal's defense and security forces, praising their republican loyalty and high sense of duty in a sub-regional context marked by political and security instability. Addressing the Minister of the Armed Forces, he emphasized that while "in some neighboring countries, the military has chosen to interrupt the democratic process by force, the Senegalese army has chosen to remain faithful to the Republic." "In other countries, some have chosen to serve religious, ethnic, or racial causes. Others, manipulated by politicians, have seized power to instigate conflict or crisis in their country. But you have chosen to remain in the barracks. You have chosen to support and protect the people," he insisted.

This stance, he argues, reinforces and consolidates what he calls the "Senegalese exception." An exception he considers precious, one that must be preserved and passed on to future generations. For the parliamentarian, if Senegalese people can maintain a certain "joie de vivre" today, despite economic and social difficulties, it is also thanks to the stabilizing role of the armed forces, which reassure, protect, and secure the country.

He also mentioned the powerful image of the defense forces marching "shoulder to shoulder" with the President of the Republic, supreme commander of the armed forces, a scene which, according to him, made many Senegalese proud and testifies to the strength of the republican tradition of the national army.

But beyond the tribute, Tafsir Thioye issued several warnings about current and future security challenges. He highlighted Senegal's proximity to strategically important countries like Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry, which are facing political crises and the threat of terrorism. He argued that this situation compels Senegal to further strengthen its vigilance and preventative capabilities against "invisible enemies," particularly terrorism.

Domestically, the MP drew attention to the resurgence of cattle rustling in rural areas, a phenomenon that is increasingly worrying the population, especially in a country heavily dependent on livestock farming, particularly with the approach of the Tabaski festival. He linked this insecurity to other difficulties experienced in rural areas, such as access to water and electricity, and mobility issues, thus contributing to a climate of insecurity and anxiety.

Tafsir Thioye also raised concerns about the security situation in certain tourist areas of the Petite Côte. He stated that towns such as Mbour, Saly, Nianing, and Ngaparou are increasingly exposed to acts of violence and attacks, sometimes targeting hotels. This insecurity, he said, directly threatens the local economy and development efforts, particularly in a sector as vital as tourism.

Faced with these challenges, he called for "greater vigilance, greater rigor, and greater responsibility" in the actions of the defense and security forces, while reaffirming the full support of the people's representatives for them. "We support you, we encourage you, and we pray for you," he concluded, renewing his commitment to a strong, republican army fully dedicated to serving the nation.
