Talla Sylla rend hommage à Abdou Aziz Mbaye : "Adieu, Mame Fama, gardien de notre ciment social"
"A voice has fallen silent. A fair, measured voice, which knew how to find the way to hearts and reasons. Abdou Aziz Mbaye, our national 'Mame Fama', has left us, leaving behind the deafening silence of an immense void." Thus expressed the president of Jëf Jël/Jàmm ak Naatange.
According to Talla Sylla, the deceased was not only the president of traditional communicators, he was a pillar, one of those rare men whose presence reassures and whose absence leaves us orphaned. "There are men who pass away and there are those who forge links. Abdou Aziz was of this second caliber. He was this precious link between generations, between the oral tradition that he embodied with such nobility and a modernity that too often leads us astray."
For the former mayor of Thiès, this "former civil servant, man of faith and talibé Cheikh who loved Tivaouane to the root of his soul, knew how to reconcile worlds, build bridges where others would have seen ditches."
"We often say of a deceased person that he was good. It's a conventional tribute, almost a reflex. But having met him, having spoken with him, I can testify, like so many others, that he was truly good. His goodness was not a pose, it emanated from him naturally, in his benevolent gaze, in the warmth of his handshake, in the wisdom of his words which soothed tensions and recalled the essential: our shared humanity," he continues.
For Talla Sylla, "today, when the cement of our society sometimes seems to be cracking, when points of reference are blurred and dialogue is fading in the face of noise, its disappearance takes on an even more painful dimension. It forces us to ask ourselves, with a heavy heart: who will take up the torch? Who will now play this essential role of unifier, of wise mediator capable of speaking to everyone?"
"Abdou Aziz, the aptly named, you do not leave us alone. You leave us a legacy. The legacy of a man of peace, an exemplary man whose life was a plea for harmony and transmission. It is up to us to prove ourselves worthy of this legacy. It is up to us to keep your memory alive not only in tears, but in the daily commitment to repairing the fractures in our society, to renewing the threads of dialogue, and to preserving this heritage of values that you so magnificently defended. Rest in peace, good man. May the land of Tivaouane, which you cherished so much, be light on you," concludes the leader of Jëf Jël/Jàmm ak Naatange.
