Trafic d’état civil à Tamba : Né en 1967 à Labé, il « renaît » en 1982 à Goudiry
The National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT) has dismantled a network in Tambacounda selling Senegalese civil status documents to foreigners. Following operations conducted in Wakhinane Nimzatt, Ziguinchor, and Saint-Louis, a new network has thus been uncovered.
The operation took place at the Gouloumbou outpost, where agents arrested a Guinean national identified as Mamadou Saidou Diallo, born in 1967 in Labé and residing in Senegal since 1987, reports Libération.
During a routine check, the newspaper reports, the man presented an expired Guinean national identity card. However, investigators discovered in his possession a Senegalese birth certificate issued under a false identity, in the name of "Mamadou Saydou Coulibaly," born in 1982 in Goudiry. A second fraudulent birth certificate, belonging to another person, was also found in his luggage.
When questioned by investigators, the suspect admitted to being a Guinean national and to having been approached in the lead-up to elections by an "influential resident of Bala," who allegedly offered to help him obtain Senegalese documents through mobile court hearings. Quoted by the same source, he claims that several of his compatriots have benefited from the same scheme.
Initially, he implicated a former local official from Bala as a facilitator, before recanting during a confrontation and admitting he had fabricated the accusation. He then mentioned the involvement of an intermediary who is now deceased.
The DNLT's investigation is now continuing at the civil registry offices in Goudiry and Bala to identify any potential accomplices. Checks have confirmed the existence of the incriminating birth certificate in the official records, but it was issued based on false declarations, the daily newspaper adds.
