Affaire des présumés homosexuels : la pique de Dame Mbodj à Alioune Tine et à la société civile
Dame Mbodj, a member of the presidential movement and director general of Sogip, took a swipe at Alioune Tine and civil society organizations, inviting them to comment on the government's "firm and courageous stance" in the hunt against people designated as homosexuals.
“I have not yet seen the position of my older brother Alioune Tine and his colleagues from civil society on the firm and courageous stance of the government regarding the persecution of homosexuals. Please share it with me if you have it,” he wrote on social media.
This statement comes in a context marked by the adoption, on Wednesday, by the Council of Ministers, of a bill amending Article 319 of Law No. 65-60 of July 21, 1965, concerning the Penal Code, relating to “acts against nature.” According to the official statement, the text aims to clarify the definition of these acts and to increase the penalties provided for them.
Meanwhile, more than thirty people, including some public figures, have recently been arrested by the Police and the Gendarmerie for acts related to these offences as well as for other charges.
On social media, many are also questioning the silence of civil society actors regarding this news.
