Voleur arrêté avec 6 bœufs à Nioro : La gendarmerie dévoile les images
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, gendarmes from the Nioro Brigade arrested a herder in possession of six stolen oxen. The man was apprehended while attempting to reach the weekly market in Nioro to sell the livestock stolen from Keur Baka.
In accordance with command directives, Gendarmerie units are intensifying their efforts to combat cattle rustling throughout the country. It was within this framework that members of the Nioro Brigade, under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Souleymane Thior, conducted a security patrol in their area of responsibility.
In the bush of the Commune of Darou Salam, they spotted a shepherd leading six oxen in suspicious circumstances.
When questioned about the origin of the animals, the suspect initially tried to evade the question before admitting to stealing them in Keur Baka. He confessed to having bypassed villages to reach the weekly market in Nioro, where he intended to sell the stolen livestock, according to a statement from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, head of the Communication and Public Relations Division of the National Gendarmerie.
The suspect has been taken into custody. The stolen cattle have been handed over to the Nioro Cattle Theft Prevention Commission. The investigation is ongoing.
