Twenty-four-year-old student S. Faye is being prosecuted for marijuana use. She was caught by police smoking a joint in the room of student B. Sokhna in the Aynina Fall neighborhood of Thiès. Her arrest followed a tip-off. Taken to the police station, S. Faye told investigators that A. Sow, a drug dealer, supplied her with the drugs. Sow and B. Sokhna were subsequently arrested for marijuana trafficking.

Placed under arrest warrant, they are being tried this Friday, December 5th, by the Thiès court for flagrant offenses.

In court, student S. Faye admitted to the facts. She stated that she had gone to do her homework at student B. Sokhna's house. It was afterward that she ordered a cone of "yamba" from "jakartaman" A. Sow. "A. Sow delivered the drugs to me. It was the third time he'd delivered them. I bought cones for 1,000 CFA francs. I started smoking at the beginning of October. Before that, I smoked cigarettes," the student confessed.

A. Sow, a 20-year-old "Jakartaman," admitted to using marijuana but denied the charges of supplying it. Student B. Sokhna stated that he was not in his room at the time of the incident and was unaware that his roommate, S. Faye, smoked marijuana.

The public prosecutor found S. Faye guilty of the charges and requested that she be given a suspended sentence so that she could continue her studies. Regarding the student B. Sokhna, the prosecution found him guilty of complicity and requested a two-month prison sentence.

As for the "jakartaman" A. Sow, the public prosecutor considered him guilty of supplying Indian hemp and requested two years of imprisonment.

The judge acquitted student B. Sokhna and sentenced student S. Faye to five days in prison and "jakartaman" A. Sow to three months in prison.
