THIÈS : Un berger gambien jugé pour le vol présumé de 25 bœufs que son employeur lui avait confiés à Keur Madaro
In Thiès, S. Sakho, a 25-year-old shepherd from Gambia, is being prosecuted for the alleged theft of 25 oxen belonging to his employer, D. Dione. The animals had been entrusted to him for their care and protection.
According to the employer, the shepherd showed up one day to report the disappearance of the herd. He added that he had found the six oxen after several days of searching.
In court, the defendant explained that he had driven the cattle into the bush as usual. He claimed that during the day he had received information about an accident involving his younger sister in Gambia. Panicked, he maintained that he had temporarily abandoned the animals to buy phone credit and inquire about his sister's well-being.
Upon his return, he said he discovered that the 25 oxen were missing. He reportedly immediately informed his boss, who decided to file a complaint against him for theft.
The defendant categorically denied the charges against him. Despite this, the plaintiff claimed 7 million FCFA in damages.
The public prosecutor considered the facts to be consistent and requested the application of the law.
