Thiès : Un commerçant condamné à un mois de prison pour le vol d’un iPhone 14
Mahmoud, a cosmetics vendor at the Thiès central market, was sentenced to one month in prison for stealing an iPhone 14 from a customer, Aïcha. The incident occurred when Aïcha went to his shop to buy body lotion. After paying, she went home, leaving her iPhone 14 on the counter. Instead of contacting her to retrieve her phone, Mahmoud hid it in a drawer.
Realizing she had lost her iPhone, Aïcha contacted Mahmoud to find out if she had left it in his shop, but he denied it. Confused, she filed a complaint against an unknown person with the Thiès Research Brigade. The gendarmes' investigations helped track the phone's movements between Mahmoud's shop and his home in the Nguinth district of Thiès. During a raid on the shop, investigators searched the drawer and found the iPhone. Caught red-handed, Mahmoud was arrested for theft and placed under arrest at the Thiès MAC.
At the Cité du Rail District Court, he attempted to deny the charges, claiming to have mistaken Aïcha's iPhone 14 Pro for his own iPhone XR. These denials failed to convince the judge, who reminded him of his attempts to unlock it and the phone's movements between his shop and his home. Faced with this damning evidence, Mahmoud finally admitted to the theft.
The public prosecutor, considering the facts consistent, requested that the law be applied. The judge found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to one month in prison.
