Thiès : Agression barbare au coupe-coupe, drogue et vols de motos, 5 bandits arrêtés
The police station of the First Arrondissement of Thiès, under the command of Commissioner Moussa Fall, carried out three major operations in just a few days. These raids led to the arrest of five people involved in cases of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, assault with a bladed weapon, and marijuana trafficking, demonstrating the vigilance and effectiveness of law enforcement in the fight against crime, according to Seneweb sources.
First raid: A plumber attacked with a machete and robbed of his motorcycle
On January 1, 2026, Mr. M. Diop, born in 1991 and a plumber by trade, went to the police station in the First Arrondissement of Thiès to report an assault he had just suffered. His chilling account highlighted the violence and audacity of criminals who do not hesitate to attack road users in the dead of night.
According to his detailed statement, during the night of January 1, 2026, around 2:00 AM, he left the town of Pout heading towards Thiès on his Jakarta motorcycle. En route, while riding peacefully, his motorcycle unfortunately ran out of gas near a place called "Allou Kagne," an area known for its nighttime isolation.
Suddenly, two men on a motorcycle appeared out of nowhere and approached him. They offered, seemingly kindly, to help him reach his destination despite his breakdown. Suspecting nothing and relieved to find help in the middle of the night, the plumber accepted their offer of assistance.
After walking only a few meters together, his supposed rescuers suddenly stopped, pretending to have lost a cell phone that had fallen during the walk. It was at this precise moment, while the victim was distracted, that they revealed their true intentions, threatening to hand over all his belongings.
Faced with Mr. Diop's understandable hesitation to part with his hard-earned possessions, one of the two assailants brandished a machete without hesitation. In an act of unimaginable violence, he struck the terrified victim on the head.
At the second blow, delivered with the same brutality, the plumber, in a desperate survival reflex, gripped the sharp blade of the machete tightly in an attempt to protect himself. This heroic but painful gesture resulted in serious injuries to both palms, which were deeply cut by the machete's sharp edge.
Taking advantage of their victim's weakened state, who was seriously injured and bleeding profusely from both hands, the unscrupulous criminals stole his Jakarta motorcycle and his mobile phone before quickly heading towards Thiès to escape any possible pursuit.
A few minutes after the criminals' hasty departure, leaving their injured and distraught victim on the side of the road, Mr. Diop was miraculously rescued by a passing driver who immediately understood the seriousness of the situation upon seeing the bloodied man.
This good Samaritan transported the victim to Thiès to provide assistance. Upon arriving at the intersection near the "EDK" gas station in Thiès, the plumber was astonished to see an individual who bore a striking resemblance to one of his assailants, riding calmly on a motorcycle as if nothing had happened. At the victim's insistence that he obtain evidence to formally identify his attackers, the man was discreetly filmed by a passenger in the vehicle in which Mr. Diop was traveling.
The use of video evidence and the arrest
Based on the invaluable video footage, which constituted crucial evidence, the experienced officers of the police station's investigative unit immediately launched a large-scale operation. They methodically searched the area's bars and restaurants before successfully apprehending the suspects at a bar where they thought they could undisturbed enjoy the proceeds of their crime.
The two criminals have been formally identified as A. Ka, born in 2005 in Thiès, presenting himself as a breeder and residing in Thionakh, as well as I. Sow, aged 29, without declared profession and also residing in Thionakh according to Seneweb sources.
Under thorough questioning about the serious charges against them, the two suspects readily admitted their involvement in this particularly violent attack before being immediately taken into custody. They are being prosecuted for conspiracy, armed robbery committed at night with the use of a bladed weapon and a vehicle—particularly serious charges given the gravity of the crime.
The victim, Mr. Diop, remains hospitalized at the Thiès Regional Hospital, where he is receiving emergency medical treatment. He sustained very serious injuries to both palms of his hands, requiring surgery. A close relative, deeply affected by the situation, even revealed to investigators that he tragically lost two fingers in the brutal attack, a permanent mutilation that will impact his work as a plumber.
Second raid: 2.5 kg of Indian hemp seized, a cart driver arrested
On January 6, 2026, continuing their tireless efforts in the fight against the drug trafficking that plagues certain neighborhoods of the city, the determined officers of the Thiès First Arrondissement Police Station's Criminal Investigation Unit arrested an individual in the Darou Salam neighborhood of Thiès, strongly suspected of involvement in a major drug trafficking network. This arrest is part of a large-scale operation aimed at dismantling the cannabis distribution networks that are proliferating in the city.
This decisive arrest follows the meticulous and methodical exploitation of particularly reliable information indicating the proven existence of a well-organised network of intense Indian hemp trafficking operating in this sensitive sector of Darou Salam.
Intelligence services had been receiving repeated reports for several weeks concerning unusual drug trafficking in this working-class neighborhood of Thiès.
Armed with this strategic information, a sophisticated surveillance and infiltration operation was meticulously set up by experienced investigators from the research brigade. After several days of discreet observation and tailing of the identified suspects, this police operation finally led to the arrest of I. Faye, a 54-year-old man who claimed to be a cart driver by profession and resided in the Darou Salam neighborhood of Thiès.
At the time of his arrest, which proceeded without major incident, I. Faye was found in flagrant possession of twenty-seven carefully packaged packets of cannabis, a considerable quantity that indicated a well-established drug dealing operation. But this was only the tip of the iceberg.
The meticulous search conducted immediately after his arrest at his home and outbuildings allowed police to make an even larger and more dramatic seizure. Law enforcement discovered and seized 2.5 kilograms of cannabis carefully concealed in various hiding places.
When questioned closely about the ownership and origin of this large quantity of drugs seized at his home, I.Faye, visibly embarrassed and seeking to minimize his responsibility, told investigators that this illicit merchandise actually belonged to his supplier, whom he identified only as BG, without being able or willing to provide any further details about the full identity, address or contact information of this mysterious supplier who appears to be an important link in the trafficking network.
He is being prosecuted for criminal association and offering or transferring Indian hemp, serious offenses punishable by heavy prison sentences given the large quantity of drugs seized in his possession.
Third police operation: Motorcycle theft in Jakarta, two 18-year-olds arrested
O.Sylla, victim of a theft, eagerly presented himself at the police station of the First District of Thiès to make a detailed statement concerning the theft of his Jakarta motorcycle, his main means of transportation and essential work tool for his daily activities.
According to his detailed statement, he had parked his Jakarta motorcycle near the construction site where he worked, as usual. Unfortunately, later, when he went to retrieve his vehicle at the end of his workday, he discovered with shock and dismay that it had simply vanished.
Fortunately for the victim and to greatly facilitate the work of the investigators, O.Sylla had the prudence and foresight to tell the police that his motorcycle was equipped with a modern and efficient GPS tracking device.
During the investigations carried out immediately after the complaint was filed, the victim, cleverly using his mobile geolocation application, was able to precisely locate his stolen motorcycle inside a private house located in the Darou Salam district of Thiès.
Armed with this precise geographical information provided by the GPS system, and acting with the speed and determination that characterize emergency interventions, the officers of the research brigade went without delay to the address indicated by the geolocation. The sudden and coordinated raid by law enforcement on this suspicious house caught three individuals red-handed, engaged in a task that left no doubt as to their criminal intentions: they were meticulously dismantling the bodywork of the stolen motorcycle, probably with the aim of selling it for parts or disguising it to erase any trace that could identify the rightful owner.
Faced with the unexpected arrival of law enforcement, which took them completely by surprise while they were busy with their loot, one of the three criminals, displaying remarkable agility and a certain composure despite the panic that must have gripped him, managed to make a spectacular escape by quickly climbing the property's perimeter wall before the police could catch him and prevent him from escaping.
The other two members of this trio of criminals were not as lucky as their fugitive accomplice. They were quickly apprehended by police officers well-trained in this type of situation and immediately arrested before being taken in handcuffs to the police station for questioning about their involvement in the robbery and the identity of their accomplices.
The two young criminals arrested were formally identified by the police as follows: B.Kassé, aged only 18, working as a carpenter, and M.Sow, also aged 18 and presenting himself as a mechanic by profession.
When thoroughly questioned about the charges against them and the precise circumstances of the Jakarta motorcycle theft, the two young suspects adopted a classic defensive strategy. While they admitted to being physically present at the scene when they were apprehended, they immediately tried to minimize their responsibility by attempting to incriminate a certain Demba, whom they identified as the true organizer of the theft and the one who had fled precipitously by climbing the perimeter wall when the police arrived unexpectedly.
Despite their attempts to partially absolve themselves of responsibility by blaming an absent accomplice, B. Kassé and M. Sow were formally placed in police custody at the secure premises of the police station. They are being prosecuted for conspiracy and armed robbery.
