TGI de Thiès : Trois jeunes jugés pour vol de ciment
Driver C. Ngom, M. Diaw, and A. Dièye appeared this Friday before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of cement theft. They were caught at a construction site in the village of Mbirdiam, in the commune of Keur Moussa, while loading bags of cement into a vehicle.
Alerted by the construction site owner, the gendarmes raided the premises. Upon seeing the officers, Mr. Diaw and A. Dièye fled, abandoning the vehicle's driver, C. Ngom, who was apprehended at the scene. The two other suspects were arrested later and remanded in custody.
In court, driver C. Ngom explained that he had been hired for a simple errand. “I was paid to transport bags of cement. I was accompanied by Mr. Diaw and A. Dièye. When it came time to load the bags, the police arrived and my companions fled. I didn't run away because I didn't understand what was happening,” he stated. He also claimed to be unaware of the cement's fraudulent origin, adding that the person who had hired him for the errand had also fled.
For their part, Mr. Diaw and A. Dièye maintained that they had been approached by the driver, C. Ngom. They justified their flight upon seeing the detectives by saying they were afraid. The public prosecutor requested that the law be applied. The verdict is expected soon.
