Thiès : Les retraités civils et militaires exigent la revalorisation des pensions et des centres de gériatrie
The National Association of Civilian and Military Retirees (ANRCM/FNR) held its 13th Ordinary Congress from Saturday 13 to Sunday 14 December 2025 in Thiès, under the impactful theme: "Pension Revaluation and Aging Management: A Challenge, an Opportunity".
The association took advantage of this event to launch a passionate plea for the improvement of living conditions for its members, as well as for widows and orphans.
The Dignity of Retirees and the Situation of Widows
The ANRCM/FNR expressed its desire to find lasting solutions to enable all civilian and military retirees, including orphans and especially widows, to meet their family expenses. The association emphasized that the socio-economic situation of the latter has "long been overlooked."
In this context, a five-year plan has been initiated specifically to improve the living conditions of widows.
The association insists that the elderly, having dedicated their youth, strength, and expertise to the country and contributed to state expenditures through their taxes, deserve a fair and equitable return. They should not be reduced to "increasing insecurity" forcing them to accept being "mere consumers of pensions, Ramadan sugar, or Tabaski sheep meat."
At the heart of the demands is the revaluation of pensions. The ANRCM/FNR, in a memorandum sent to authorities and members of parliament, reiterates that pensions should not be considered a mere social benefit or an "adjustment variable," but rather a right acquired through work. This revaluation must be continuously updated to guarantee a dignified and decent retirement.
Furthermore, faced with the deteriorating health of seniors, the association considers it urgent to increase care capacity. The ANRCM/FNR is calling for the creation of Regional Geriatric and Gerontology Centers. This objective is essential to ensure quality care for those burdened by age, illness, or disability. According to the association, this fight must be accompanied by a "bold social policy" led by a dedicated body responsible for addressing the challenges of aging.
The ANRCM/FNR concludes that defending the moral and material interests of retirees, widows, and orphans is a duty for those who administered them.
