Thiès : M. Ndiaye condamné à 8 ans de réclusion criminelle pour avoir tué son voisin pour un bol de viande
The criminal chamber of the Thiès High Court has delivered its verdict in the case opposing Mr. Ndiaye to his neighbor A. Diallo, killed in 2022 following an altercation that occurred on the day of Tabaski.
Initially charged with assassination, the accused ultimately saw the charges reduced to murder. He was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in prison.
The events date back to the Tabaski festival in 2022, in a neighborhood of Thiès. According to the evidence presented at the hearing on Monday, January 26, 2026, an argument broke out between the two men over a bowl of meat, before escalating into a violent confrontation.
In court, Mr. Ndiaye admitted to inflicting the fatal blows, while maintaining that he had not intended to kill. He explained that he acted in self-defense, claiming he had been attacked by the victim who was armed with a stick.
However, witness A. Dia stated that the stabbings occurred while the victim was already on the ground, an element that weighed heavily in the court's assessment of the facts.
In his closing argument, the public prosecutor argued that the evidence in the case did not support the premeditation required for the murder. He therefore requested that the charges be changed to murder and sought a five-year prison sentence.
After deliberating, the criminal chamber upheld the reclassification as murder, but handed down a heavier sentence than that requested by the public prosecutor, sentencing Mr. Ndiaye to eight years of criminal imprisonment.
