Thiès : Le préfet interdit la marche et le sit-in des ferrailleurs du Sénégal

Risks of public order disturbances and obstruction of the free movement of people and goods. These are the grounds on which the Prefect of Thiès is relying to issue an order banning the march planned by scrap metal dealers in Senegal, this Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., as well as the sit-in planned for the same day, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Place de France.

Mame Less Cabou referred to the Penal Code, in its articles 92 to 100, to prohibit this demonstration on the public highway and recalled that any offender will be punished in accordance with the provisions of said code. The central commissioner of Thiès is responsible for the execution of this order which has been notified to the interested parties and communicated wherever necessary.

In their platform of demands, the Senegalese scrap metal dealers refer to the "refusal to apply the circular letter of September 29, 2025 by manufacturers"; "the total opening of the export of ferrous and non-ferrous products"; "the suspension of the import of iron billets by manufacturers" and the "full payment of vouchers since September 29, 2025 as stipulated in the circular letter".
