Thiès : sept présumés membres d'un éseau QNET condamnés par le tribunal des flagrants délits

The Thiès court of summary jurisdiction heard a case involving seven people, including six women and one man, prosecuted for criminal conspiracy and fraud. The defendants, identified by the initials K. Kama, MT Ndiaye, MD Diallo, F. Ndao, LB Diouf, A. Sèye, and M. Top, were arrested in an apartment located in the Nguinth neighborhood, where they were conducting activities related to the QNET network, which specializes in marketing health and wellness products.

In court, K. Kama explained that he joined the network a little over a month ago after buying a product online on the recommendation of his cousin. According to his statements, his membership then required him to recruit at least two other people, each of whom had to pay 600,000 FCFA to join the system.

The defendant also admitted to deceiving the apartment owner by making him believe that she was renting it out to house students, when in reality it was being used as a meeting and recruitment place for members of the network.

Most of the other defendants stated that they had joined QNET using the same method. Some maintained that they had only recently joined the group and had not yet completed the membership formalities at the time of their arrest.

At the hearing, A. Sèye, presented as a victim in the case, stated that she had paid 600,000 FCFA before discovering she was involved in a QNET network. Another witness explained that he had been invited to join the group. Upon arrival, he was offered preliminary training before joining, but he indicated that he quickly realized it was a scam.

The owner of the apartment, for his part, confirmed that one of the defendants had told him she was a student and wanted to rent the accommodation to live in with her friends, without ever mentioning the activities that took place there.

In his closing arguments, the public prosecutor stated that the evidence in the case file supported the charges against the defendants. He nevertheless deferred to the court's judgment regarding the sentence to be imposed, while requesting the confiscation of all equipment seized and used in connection with the activities of the QNET network.

The court acquitted the defendants of the charge of criminal conspiracy. It found them guilty of fraud and sentenced each to six months' imprisonment, suspended.
