Thiès : Un commerçant achète deux bovins volés à 2 millions F CFA et finit en prison
A. Cissé, a 60-year-old shopkeeper, was arrested and remanded in custody for receiving stolen goods. He was apprehended in possession of two purebred oxen reported stolen.
In court, he denied the charges and claimed to have legally acquired the animals from a Mr. Sow. "He sold them to me. I bought them for 2 million CFA francs. I went to his home to discuss the price. Once we reached an agreement, I gave him an advance of 800,000 CFA francs before loading the cattle in front of several witnesses," he stated. According to him, he was unaware that the cattle had been stolen. The two animals have since been returned to their rightful owner, I. Ndione.
But the public prosecutor considered that the facts were consistent and requested the application of the law.
The court has taken the case under advisement.
