Thiès : Un maître coranique escroque 6 millions F CFA à un commerçant, le procureur requiert 8 mois ferme
Mr. Diouf, 26, a Quranic teacher residing in the Medina Fall neighborhood, appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of fraud. He is accused of having swindled 6 million CFA francs from the merchant A. Fall.
But in court, the defendant denied the charges. "These accusations are false. I never gave him mystical baths. I only gave him amulets that I made using Quranic verses. He was the one who asked for my services, saying that he wanted to travel but was having difficulties. The money he gave me did not exceed 200,000 CFA francs," he argued.
For his part, A. Fall explained that it all started when the defendant went to his shop to buy perfumes, before they exchanged contact information. “He then asked me to come visit him with a guinea fowl. At his home, he offered to pray for my business and my protection. He made me come back a second time and gave me mystical baths, which I took on his terrace. Since then, I gave him all the money he asked for. I even sold my land for 2 million CFA francs to give it to him. He hypnotized me; I was no longer conscious,” he stated, thus claiming 6 million CFA francs in damages.
The public prosecutor considered the reported acts to be recurring and suggested that the charge of quackery could be added to the fraud charge, as the defendant's intent was clear and evident.
He therefore asked the court to find Mr. Diouf guilty of fraud and to sentence him to one year in prison, including eight months of mandatory imprisonment.
The court has taken the case under advisement. The decision will be handed down soon.
