Thiès : Une sénégalaise et une Sierraléonaise jugées pour prostitution clandestine
Sierra Leonean C. Maxwell Sierra and Senegalese M. Diarra appeared before the Thiès court of summary jurisdiction on Friday, December 5th. They are being prosecuted for clandestine prostitution.
These two young women, residents of the Sante Yalla neighborhood in Pout, were arrested by the gendarmerie while practicing this profession without health cards. They were subsequently charged and remanded in custody.
In court, the Sierra Leonean woman admitted to being a prostitute. She stated that she had been working in this profession for nine months. Regarding her medical records, she said she had them but that they had been confiscated by the police. She explained that the document was seized for failing to attend her scheduled medical appointments.
For her part, the Senegalese woman denied the accusations. She claimed that she was arrested in a bar in Sébikotane and that she was not there to prostitute herself.
But the investigation revealed that Mr. Diarra was drunk at the time of his arrest and that she was in possession of condoms, which, she said, "belonged to her friend."
For his part, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law.
In delivering his decision, the judge found the defendants guilty before sentencing them to 6 months suspended.
